Math Soring Unit

We finished learning about sorting in Math last week, but I found pictures on my camera and wanted to share what we did.  We learned to sort by color, shape, size, and kind.  We also learned how to create our own sorting rule!  These were some of the activities we did:

We sorted "real seashells" and then then we sorted "paper seashells."

We sorted colored goldfish, Yummy!  We then sorted sea creatures!

Some other sorting activities we did: sock sorting, shoe and sock sorting, cookie sorting, farm animal sorting and much more.
Now we are working on numbers 0-10.  We are working to identify, name, and count to 10.  We are also working on counting sets of objects up to 10.  You can help at home, but setting out different groups of things and ask your child to "touch and count" and tell you how many are in each group!!

Apples, Apples, Apples...

I apologize for my lack of posting!  This time of year is so busy with getting back into the swing of school, student council fundraiser, Husker Football, and many more fun fall activities.  Apples has taken over KE and I'm loving every minute of it!  This time of year is my absolute favorite!  We have been learning about the parts of an apple, the apple cycle, Johnny Appleseed, and many more Apple facts!

We taste tested our favorite apples and then made a class graph.  We transferred our findings onto an individual graph.  Thanks Mrs. Faribanks for helping us with this projects!

We read the story Johnny Appleseed, watch a video about him and then made him.  We changed our last names for the day to be "Appleseed."

Some of our Apple Projects!

Parts of an Apple!

One of our favorite Apple Songs:  There is a fruit that grows on trees, and apples is its name-OH!  A-P-P-L-E, A-P-P-L-E, A-P-P-L-E, and Apple is its name-OH! (To the tune of B-I-N-G-O)  We were very excited that we can now spell the word apple!

SOME of our favorite Apple Books.

Our Apple Unit will continue into next week!  We will be learning an apple poem, making baked apples, making apple pies, making an apple person, doing number projects with apples, and tasting different foods made from apples!!
Just a reminder, don't forget Thursday, September 27th is our Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  It is also a 1:10p.m. dismissal that day.  Please dress your child weather appropriate and send them with a sack lunch!

Fun with Food!

We did two really great projects with yummy food to help us learn our names and colors!  First, we read the story Mouse Paint, a story about color mixing.  We then made a color wheel on a paper plate and mixed colored frosting to show Secondary Colors.  As we mixed colors of frosting we transferred our findings onto a paper Mouse Paint book to take home!

We then read the story, Who Stole the Cookie From the Cookie Jar.  We used a "kid friendly recipe" to make our very own batch of cookies.  My Mom and Grandma graciously came to school to help us make cookies!  We couldn't have made them without them!  We then played a "Who Stole the Cookie Game" to help us better learn our names and the names of other friends in our classroom!  We created a class book with pictures of us eating our cookies! (I wish I could share them with you!)  You can check out our class book at Parent/Teacher Conferences!

Please check-out our September Newsletter in this weeks Thursday Packet!  It will tell you about all the fun activities we are have done at school!  I hope everyone has had a great Labor Day weekend!
