Fall/Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Thanksgiving Break!  We had a great last few days before break in KE!  We have been very busy learning about fall, leaves, turkeys, and Thanksgiving!  Here are some things we did:

In Math class we created a Raccoon Puppet with Corn.  The corn had numbers 0-10 on them.  We then played a game and made our raccoon "eat" different numbers.  We practiced the skills of number identification and number order!  The kids loved this interactive activity!

On a brisk cold morning, we went on a "leaf hunt" as a class.  We first read the story, Going on a Leaf Hunt.  We then took out paper bags to collect different leaves.  We looked for different sizes, colors, and shapes!  When we returned to school, we did leaf rubbings with the leaves we collected!

Thank you to all of you who decorated turkeys!  They were absolutely wonderful!  All staff and students really enjoyed looking at them daily in the hallway!

During Math Class, we used a Scarecrow Glyph to make these scarecrows.  We have to follow specific directions and use our number skills to put the correct number of pieces on our scarecrows.

We read the book, The Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything and then we created this scarecrow.  Once we were finished making and coloring them, we wrote about them!

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving we used this "recipe" to create this Turkey Cookie!  What a great celebration!

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving we discussed what we are Thankful for.  Here are some of our responses:
I am thankful for...
*family
*mom and dad
*food
*spiderman
*power rangers
*toys
*school
*teachers
*life
*pets
*brothers and sisters
*a house

Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey Award!

I just had to share this, because I'm really excited about it!  First of all, I am part of such a wonderful staff at Crete Public Schools.  A tradition that has been around for a LONG time is the "Turkey Award."  It is given out by a staff member to wants to award another staff member for doing something outstanding.  Never in a million years, did I think I would get it!  Anne, our school psychologist, was awarded it at our last staff meeting for her outstanding effort in helping with kids.

She then awarded it to me for my efforts with my Kindergarten class this year.  For those of you know me, know this year has been a bit challenging.  I am constantly learning and finding out new ways to successfully manage behavior!  This award completely made my day and made me realize that my efforts are being recognized and that I am extremely thankful!

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all of you who have helped your child decorate their Turkey!  Every year I am completely amazed by the work that students and parents do and how neat the turkeys are.  Students and staff LOVE seeing them in the hallway and looking at all the amazing ways Turkey Tom has been disguised!  I will post pictures very soon, and students will be able to take their turkeys home for Thanksgiving break to display on their refrigerator!
